Menthières, Mountain ski resort in Chézery-Forens, France
Menthières is a small ski resort in a mountain hamlet situated between 1070 and 1150 meters in elevation in the Pays de Gex region. The facility has three ski slopes, two snowshoe trails, and three lifts including a magic carpet for beginners and sledders.
The resort opened in 1987 as a joint project between the municipalities of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine and Chézery-Forens. It later joined the Monts Jura group in 2006.
The hamlet of Menthières shows traditional Jura mountain architecture with stone buildings and pitched roofs that blend into the landscape. The place maintains the character of a small winter sports community with local features of the region.
The area operates from December through March when snow conditions are most reliable and consistent. Good footwear is important as the terrain is steep and paths can be slippery in icy conditions.
The resort sits adjacent to a nature reserve in the Jura range and follows stricter environmental regulations than many other ski areas. These conservation rules shape how the place is managed and developed.
