Abbaye Saint-Ambroix de Bourges, Historical abbey in Bourges, France.

The Saint-Ambroix Abbey stands near the historic center of Bourges, incorporating ancient stone structures within a modern luxury hotel complex.

Founded by Benedictine monks around 770, the abbey was rebuilt in 1012 by Geoffrey the Noble who added a chapter of Augustinian canons.

The abbey served as a filming location for 'Le Grand Meaulnes' in 1965, representing a significant connection between religious architecture and French cinema.

The site now operates as Hotel de Bourbon, offering accommodations through a 100-year lease agreement with the Bourges municipality.

The abbey holds the distinction of housing fragments allegedly from the skulls of Rodrigue and Chimene, brought from their desecrated tomb in Burgos, Spain.
