Château du Prince Noir

Château du Prince Noir is a castle in Talence with a quadrilateral layout featuring two rectangular residential wings connected by a gallery and an inner courtyard turret. The exterior displays late medieval stonework and window arrangements reflecting the building's construction phases.

The castle replaced a 14th-century structure when the Roustaing family rebuilt it in the late 15th century. This transformation from a defensive medieval building to a residential manor reflected changing needs in regional architecture.

The wall paintings from 1877 and decorated wooden beams from the 17th century reflect different artistic periods in the building's life. You can see how successive generations left their own decorative mark on the rooms.

The castle stands at 103 Rue Roustaing in Talence, about ten minutes south of Bordeaux city center. Its location in a quiet residential neighborhood makes it accessible but requires intentional planning to visit.

It ranks as the last preserved medieval castle in the Bordeaux metropolitan area. This rare status stems from careful stewardship by the Roustaing family, who inhabited the property across generations.
