Château Peixotto

Château Peixotto is a three-story neoclassical building in Talence with symmetrical windows, decorated cornices, and a central entrance framed by stone columns. The facade displays clear classical proportions and balanced design typical of its architectural period.

A banker named Samuel Peixotto commissioned architect François Lhote to build this residence in 1760. The project reflected the rising wealth of Portuguese Jewish merchants in Bordeaux during that era.

The interior decorations feature artistic details with harmonious motifs and muses carved above doorways, reflecting artistic tastes of the 18th century. These ornamental elements reveal the preferences and prosperity of the family who lived there.

The grounds can be visited, but check before arriving since access may have specific conditions or limited openings. Being a protected monument, the building may only be viewable from outside or during special occasions.

A garden pavilion built in 1782 contains an artificial island linked to the nearby Ars stream through an intricate water system. This hydraulic feature was uncommon in private gardens and shows the owner's technical ambition.
