The castle sits atop vaulted cellars with a rectangular footprint, marked by red brick chains and pilasters running across its single-story facades. The building rests on solid foundations with a clear geometric layout of windows and openings.
In 1616, forces led by the Baron de Poyanne destroyed the castle during a siege ordered by King Louis XIII. The building was then completely reconstructed and gained its present form.
The architectural style carries Scottish influences from the Spens family, who settled in France after Patrick Spens married in Saint-Sever in 1466. This heritage shapes how the building looks and how its spaces are organized.
