Château des Montgommery, Renaissance castle in Ducey-Les Chéris, France

Château des Montgommery is a Renaissance castle located near the Sélune River in Ducey-Les Chéris. The structure features a central residence with tall windows, triangular roof sections, and four Corinthian columns that support its balcony.

Gabriel II de Montgommery constructed the castle during the early 17th century. His family held important positions in French nobility and significantly influenced the region over several generations.

The interior preserves architectural details from the Second French Renaissance and Louis XIII period, including exposed wood beam ceilings and distinctive fireplaces. These features show how residents lived and organized their domestic spaces during that era.

Access to the castle is via a paved path, and the interior rooms are reached through a granite staircase. Visitors should expect uneven historic floors and low doorways typical of buildings from that period.

A double-spiral granite staircase winds through the castle's chambers and creates an unusual path for exploration. Underground cellars are partially buried beneath the main structure, serving as foundations that most visitors hardly notice.
