Abbaye de Montmorel

The Montmorel Abbey stands between the Sélune and Beuvron rivers, featuring architectural elements from the 12th century including a cloister and an abbot's residence.

Established in 1160 by the du Homme and Subligny families, the abbey received protection from Richard the Lionheart in 1195 before destruction during the Religious Wars.

The Augustinian monastery represented one of four male monastic establishments in the Avranches diocese and developed a recognized theological school.

Visitors can explore the protected facades, the bridge over the Beuvron, and the hydraulic system that have been under preservation measures since 1980.

The Tonquédec family, owners since 1969, continues the restoration of preserved buildings, including the original refectory and cellars.
