Château de Rocheplatte

Château de Rocheplatte stands where the Oeuf and Rimarde rivers meet, surrounded by water-filled moats that protect the towers and main buildings. The property contains multiple structures and outbuildings developed across different construction periods.

Built in the 11th century as a defensive fortress, the site originally guarded the local region. After a fire in the 18th century, it was rebuilt and significantly modified under new ownership.

The building displays architectural styles from different periods in its structures and gothic cellar, showing how construction methods and purposes evolved over time. Visitors can observe these layered building techniques as they walk around the grounds.

Visits are arranged through the Grand Pithiverais Tourist Office and can only be done with the castle owner as guide. Tours focus on the exterior grounds and require advance booking through the local tourist office.

The castle park contains rare plant species that botanist Duhamel du Monceau introduced to the area during the 18th century. This collection shows how the property served as a place of horticultural knowledge and plant exchange.
