Château d'Ajat, Protected castle in Ajat, France.

The Château d'Ajat consists of two main residential sections connected by a gallery and features a central courtyard enclosed by defensive walls.

Originally constructed in the 13th century by the Knights Templar, the castle underwent significant modifications during the 16th and 17th centuries.

The residence belonged to the Hautefort family until the French Revolution, with several notable marriages strengthening their regional influence over generations.

The castle received official protection status as a historical monument on June 8, 1925, and sits in the Dordogne department of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The interior preserves original architectural elements from the 17th century, including exposed wooden beam ceilings and period woodwork.
