Château des Rohan

Château des Rohan is a 13th-century castle positioned at the entrance of the Bruche Valley with defensive structures and water fortifications surrounding it. The site has been converted into a museum and now includes an auditorium space that houses a cinema, library, and music hall.

Rudolf of Habsburg created the first fortifications in 1274, which were later expanded by the Rohan family from 1704 to 1790. The transformation into a museum reflects how the site evolved from a military stronghold into a public cultural space.

The castle displays a collection of firearms that were made at the site when it operated as a workshop during the 1700s. It shows how the location served as a working industrial space alongside its role as a residence.

The castle is easily accessible on foot and offers good views of the surrounding valley from above. You can explore different sections of the site depending on what interests you most.

The auditorium has been fitted with modern equipment and uses the historic rooms for films, concerts, and talks. This blend of medieval walls with contemporary events creates an unexpected contrast.
