Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Nestier

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Nestier is a stone building with a rectangular layout and a square bell tower positioned above the entrance porch. Two narrow windows illuminate the nave and allow light to reach the interior spaces.

This building stands on the site of an ancient Aquitanian-Roman villa where a votive altar dedicated to Erge, a Pyrenean deity, once stood. This historical layer connects the location to its distant pre-Christian past.

The interior contains bronze bas-relief Stations of the Cross, a wooden pulpit, and altar paintings showing scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist. These artworks shape the character of the church and give it its distinctive appearance.

The building is open to visitors and lies along the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route, making it a good stop for pilgrims and walkers. Regular services take place there, so visitors should respect opening times and be thoughtful about the active use of the space.

Three stained glass windows and the church bell were blessed during a special ceremony, marking an important moment in its more recent history. This event gives certain elements of the church a particular spiritual significance.
