Mghvimevi monastery

The monastery complex consists of two churches, a bell tower, and monastic dwellings situated within a natural cave formation along the Kvirila River.

During the 13th century, builders created this monastery by incorporating existing caves, which later served as refuges during periods of conflict.

The main church displays intricate stone carvings on its facade, wooden iconostasis from the 18th century, and frescoes depicting portraits of monastery founders.

Visitors reach the monastery through a narrow cliffside pathway that leads to the cave entrance, where the complex extends horizontally into the rock face.

Archaeological excavations near the monastery uncovered prehistoric artifacts, including arrowheads and evidence of early human occupation in the surrounding caves.
