Kutjevo Abbey, Baroque abbey in Kutjevo, Croatia.
The abbey complex features white stone walls, traditional architectural details, and a prominent bell tower rising above the main structure in Slavonia.
Founded in 1232 as a daughter-house of Zirc Abbey, the monastery operated until 1521 when Turkish forces caused its dissolution and destruction.
The Cistercian monks of Kutjevo Abbey introduced wine cultivation methods that established the foundation for the current wine production in the region.
Visitors can access the abbey grounds during daylight hours and combine their visit with wine tasting experiences at the adjacent historic cellars.
The monastery buildings, reconstructed by Jesuits in the 18th century, incorporate stones from the original Cistercian structures into their Baroque design.
