Ružica grad, Medieval stone castle ruin in Orahovica, Croatia.
The stone fortress remains extend across 86,000 square feet on a steep rock formation within the Papuk forest at an elevation of 378 meters.
Constructed in 1357, Ruzica Grad served as a defensive structure and residence until Ottoman forces captured the region during their 1542 campaign under Suleiman I.
The Renaissance festival features performances by the Order of the Knights of Ruzica Castle, connecting current residents with medieval traditions.
A marked path leads visitors from Orahovica Lake through forest trails to reach the castle ruins, with the hike taking approximately 45 minutes.
The fortress stands as the largest medieval castle ruin in Slavonia, offering views over valleys where red deer, roe deer, and wild boars roam.
