Brod Fortress, Military fortress in Slavonski Brod, Croatia
The star-shaped fortress spans 33 hectares along the Sava River, featuring three defense zones supported by moats and a central building called Cavalier.
The Austrian Habsburgs commissioned this fortress between 1715 and 1780 to defend against Ottoman Empire attacks, using forced peasant labor for construction.
The fortress contains the Ružić Gallery, which displays a collection of Croatian modern art within its preserved military architecture and stone walls.
Located 200 meters west of the main korzo, visitors can access the fortress through a small road from Vukovarska ulica into the courtyard.
The fortress design included space for 4,000 soldiers and 150 cannons, requiring 46 days for enemies to capture it under siege conditions.
