Risika

Risika is a coastal settlement on the eastern side of Krk Island that stretches along the waterfront with stone houses mixed alongside modern apartments. The shoreline opens to Saint Marek Bay, which shapes the village's character and layout.

The area was settled by Romans in ancient times, with archaeological evidence still present. In the medieval period, the fortress of Gradec developed nearby as the seat of the powerful Counts of Krk.

The settlement is rooted in veneration of Saint Mark, reflected in local place names and the rhythm of community life centered on the parish church. This religious connection shapes how residents relate to their surroundings and to each other throughout the year.

The settlement is accessible by car, bus, or through a nearby airport, making it easy to reach from various directions. Summer months bring the warmest weather and most active waterfront use, while spring and fall offer quieter visits.

This settlement holds the only sandy beach on the entire island of Krk, making it a rare swimming spot in this region. Remnants of the medieval Church of Saint Mark stand nearby and remind visitors of earlier settlement patterns.
