Meteor Cave

Meteor Cave is a cave system in Bódvaszilas formed within Triassic limestone rock, with passages that wind through multiple levels and chambers. The cave contains numerous rock formations including stalactites and stalagmites that have grown over millennia.

The cave was discovered in 1961 when researchers noticed ground disruption in the area and began investigating underground passages. This find added to scientific knowledge about the region's limestone formations.

This cave system is part of a UNESCO World Heritage region recognized for its karst geology and sits within a landscape shaped by underground water activity over thousands of years.

Visiting requires advance notice and physical preparation since the route involves climbing, crawling, and navigating tight passages. Bring appropriate gear and ensure you are in reasonable health, as exploring takes several hours.

One chamber within the system contains notably large rock formations that impress visitors with their monumental scale. These formations developed over millions of years, demonstrating the power of water erosion.
