Mayapur, Religious neighborhood in Bamanpukur, India.
Mayapur is a settlement at the confluence of the Jalangi and Bhagirathi rivers in Nadia District, West Bengal. The town sits on an island and forms a broader area with several temples, residential quarters, and pilgrimage centers connected by narrow roads.
The area was originally a Muslim fishing village named Miyapur. In the late 19th century, the Yogapith temple was erected, turning the location into a religious center and eventually leading to the foundation of several spiritual communities.
The Yogapith temple, built in the 1880s, features a distinctive pyramidal dome and marks the birthplace of religious figure Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Access is usually through Nabadwip Dham, a railway station around 3 km (2 miles) away, from where rickshaws and buses continue. The area is easy to explore on foot, with most buildings and temples within comfortable walking distance of each other.
The Yogapith temple displays a pyramidal dome structure and is revered by pilgrims as the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. During the Gaur Purnima festival, devotees walk through nine islands for seven days in a traditional circuit called Parikrama.
