Sarita Vihar, Administrative division in South East Delhi, India
Sarita Vihar is a residential neighborhood in South East Delhi situated near the borders of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. The area is served by major roads and highways, along with the Violet Line Metro station, and includes many schools, hospitals, and shopping centers.
The area was originally chosen in 1982 for the Asian Games Village construction but was redirected to residential development on the direction of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. This change shaped its development as a planned residential neighborhood with organized infrastructure.
The name Sarita comes from Sanskrit and means river, reflecting the natural landscape heritage of this South Delhi area through its residential design. The neighborhood attracts residents who value green spaces and living in a planned community.
The neighborhood is easily accessible via the Violet Line Metro and major roads, making it convenient to travel to other parts of Delhi. The established schools, hospitals, and shops within the area mean most daily needs can be met locally.
In 2013 the area received recognition as Delhi's greenest colony thanks to residents actively participating in environmental programs and tree-planting initiatives. This recognition reflects how the neighborhood came to be known for its green spaces and community involvement.
