Delhi Eye, Observation wheel in Okhla, India
Delhi Eye is a large observation wheel on the Yamuna riverbank, near the Kalindi Kunj area in southern Delhi. It has 36 air-conditioned cabins that rotate slowly and offer wide views over the surrounding city.
The project was first planned in 2010 along the Yamuna riverbank, but approvals took several years to come through. The wheel eventually opened to the public in 2014.
From the cabins, riders can spot landmarks like Akshardham Temple and Lotus Temple, both deeply tied to religious life in the city. Seeing them from above gives a different sense of how these places fit into the layout of Delhi.
Each ride lasts around 20 minutes, which gives enough time to take in the views from all sides. A clear day makes a noticeable difference, as haze is common in Delhi and can limit what you see.
The wheel was built by a Dutch company that focuses on constructing observation structures of this kind. Each cabin has screens inside that show information about what riders can see during the ride.
