Gesäuse National Park, National park in Styria, Austria
The Gesäuse National Park extends across 110 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, featuring limestone peaks, deep valleys, and the Enns River water gap.
The Austrian government designated this Alpine region as a protected area in 2002, making it the most recent national park addition in the country.
The park includes sections of four municipalities - Johnsbach, Weng, Landl, and Sankt Gallen - where traditional Alpine farming practices continue in designated zones.
Visitors can access numerous marked hiking trails, climbing routes, and educational centers, with the main information pavilion located in Gstatterboden.
The park contains over 200 endemic species found nowhere else, with the common sandpiper nesting along the gravel banks of the Enns River.
