Riffel, Mountain summit in Steiermark, Austria
Riffel is a summit in the Ennstaler Alpen in Styria and rises to 2,106 meters above sea level. The peak sits within a mountain massif in central Austria, characterized by steep rocky faces and alpine meadows that surround the upper slopes.
This peak formed millions of years ago when the African and European plates collided during the Alpine mountain-building process. The region has been climbed by generations of mountaineers who developed and refined routes over many decades.
The mountainous region surrounding Riffel represents generations of Alpine traditions, where local inhabitants maintain connections through hiking and climbing activities.
The best time to climb is during September and November when weather conditions are more stable and predictable. Two established routes lead to the summit, so visitors should research their chosen path beforehand and bring proper equipment.
From this summit, climbers can spot three neighboring peaks nearby: Admonter Kalbling, Kreuzkogel, and Sparafeld. This visibility of multiple adjacent peaks makes it a useful landmark for understanding the layout of the surrounding mountain range.
