Fatimakapelle, Protected chapel in Schardenberg, Austria.
Fatimakapelle is a granite chapel in Fronwald built on an ancient religious site near Schardenberg. Its interior features mosaic designs, life-sized bronze figures, stained glass windows, and a main altar created by sculptor Alrun Illig.
The foundation stone was laid in 1949 and the chapel was consecrated in 1951. This site had long held religious significance for local believers before the current structure was built.
From May to October, the chapel holds Fatima Days celebrations on the thirteenth of each month, drawing thousands of pilgrims to Fronwald.
The chapel is best reached on foot using the paths leading to Fronwald. Visitors should prepare for varying weather conditions, especially during visits in colder months.
The statue of Mary displayed here was created by the same artist who sculpted the famous image at Fatima, Portugal. This shared artistry connects the two pilgrimage sites through a master craftsman's vision.
