Town hall in Schladming

The Town hall in Schladming is a three-story building with exposed brick facades, decorative window frames, and a prominent southern tower featuring polygonal projections. It houses administrative offices, a public library on the third floor of the tower, and functions as the central governmental facility for the town.

Prince Ludwig August von Sachsen-Coburg commissioned this hunting lodge in 1884. The city of Schladming acquired the building in 1940 and converted it to serve municipal functions.

The hunting room on the ground floor preserves its original paintings by Otto Recknagel and shows how the building connected to aristocratic traditions of that era. This decorated space offers insight into the tastes and customs of those who once used it.

The building is centrally located in Schladming and easy to reach on foot. Visitors can explore public areas including the library and administrative spaces during regular business hours.

A relief of the Brazilian imperial crown adorns the second-floor staircase, reflecting the building's connection to the Brazilian branch of the Sachsen-Coburg dynasty. This unusual detail connects European architecture with distant family ties across continents.
