Trefflingfall, Waterfall and narrow canyon in Puchenstuben, Austria.
Trefflingfall is a waterfall flowing through a narrow gorge near Puchenstuben, where water descends in multiple stages down a considerable height. The rock walls rise steeply on both sides, creating an enclosed and dramatic setting.
The waterfall formed over long periods as the Treffling stream continuously carved into the rock and shaped the gorge. This natural process created one of the most distinctive formations in Lower Austria.
The name comes from the Treffling stream, which has carved this path through the rock and creates a steady sound of water throughout the gorge. Local hikers have made this a popular destination for experiencing the natural landscape of the Mostviertel region.
The site is reachable from the parking area at Sulzbichl via a marked hiking trail that takes about 30 minutes to complete. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for wet conditions, especially near the water and after rainfall.
During warmer months, visitors can walk behind the water curtain and experience the gorge from an unusual vantage point. In winter, the water freezes and creates sparkling ice cascades that completely transform the appearance of the site.
