Kirchbichl excavation site, Lavant

The Kirchbichl excavation site reveals sections of Roman buildings, Celtic temple structures, and medieval foundations across multiple excavation layers.

The settlement reached its peak during the third century CE when inhabitants from nearby Roman city Aguntum sought refuge from Germanic invasions.

The archaeological collections at the Museums Resource Centre display tools, pottery, and artifacts that document daily activities from Roman to medieval periods.

The excavation site remains open throughout the year, with guided tours available at the museum located at the base of Kirchbichl hill.

Natural protection from streams on both east and west sides, combined with a deep southern gorge, made this hilltop settlement particularly defendable.
