St. Paul's Church, Gothic and Baroque parish church in Veemarkt, Belgium
St. Paul's Church is a Gothic and Baroque parish church located in Antwerp that combines medieval exterior walls with a prominent Baroque tower. Inside, the space holds an extensive collection of paintings and sculptures, while an adjacent sculptural garden displays life-size figures.
Construction of the church began in 1517, and it underwent significant changes from fires and damage over the centuries. A major restoration following bombardment in 1830 reshaped the building as it appears today.
The interior displays paintings and sculptures by Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, and Jacob Jordaens that visitors can encounter throughout their visit. These works reflect how Flemish artistic traditions shaped the space and continue to define its character.
The church welcomes visitors who wish to explore its artworks and garden without requiring any special background knowledge. Plan time for an unhurried walk through both the interior and the outdoor space.
The outdoor garden contains more than 60 life-size stone figures and several relief works forming a monumental display. This collection ranks among the largest outdoor sculptural projects in the country and remains often overlooked by visitors.
