Sint-Antoniuskerk

Sint-Antoniuskerk, Gothic Revival church in central Antwerp, Belgium

Sint-Antoniuskerk is a Gothic Revival church located in central Antwerp featuring a 78 meter high tower built from reddish-brown brick. The interior is organized with a central nave flanked by two side aisles, creating a traditional church layout.

This church was built between 1906 and 1910 by architects Jan-Lodewijk Baeckelmans and Jules Bilmeyer on the site of a former Capuchin church from 1613. The new structure replaced an older building that had stood on this location for centuries.

Inside you can see a notable painting by Peter Paul Rubens showing Saint Francis receiving the Jesus Child from the Virgin Mary. This artwork draws visitors' attention and tells a story rooted in Christian faith.

The church welcomes visitors during weekdays and hosts regular religious services. It is worth checking ahead to find times when services are not scheduled, allowing you to explore the architecture and interior at your own pace.

The building incorporates historical anchors salvaged from the previous Capuchin structure, serving as physical reminders of the site's long connection to that order. A garden wall on the grounds still marks where the former monastery once stood.
