Fietsen door de Bomen, Bicycle bridge in Hechtel-Eksel, Belgium
Fietsen door de Bomen is an elevated cycling path that rises 10 meters above ground through a double circular route spanning 700 meters. The structure uses rust-colored steel pillars and winds through the pine forests of Bosland National Park.
This cycling bridge opened in June 2019 as a collaborative project between Visit Limburg, the Flemish government, and local authorities. The initiative aimed to create a new recreational route while keeping disturbance to the forest ecosystem to a minimum.
The structure incorporates Corten steel pillars that mirror the surrounding pine forest, creating an integration between infrastructure and natural environment.
Access the bridge from junction 272 of the regional cycling network, with free parking at Kiefhoekstraat 16. The route is open year-round and available to cyclists of all levels without reservation or entry fees.
The bridge offers cyclists a rare chance to experience the forest canopy up close and at eye level while riding an elevated path. This vantage point reveals how the woodland is structured and which birds inhabit the treetops in a way that ground-level trails cannot match.
