Koortskapel, Religious chapel in Waregem, Belgium
Koortskapel is a small chapel in Waregem built from yellow brickwork with a gabled roof topped by blue mechanical tiles and an iron cross. Inside, an altar displays a statue of Our Lady with Child and a marble plate bearing Dutch inscriptions.
The chapel appeared on military maps from 1866 but later vanished from records until its reconstruction. It was rebuilt in 1993 as a replacement for the original structure that had disappeared.
The chapel serves as a local place of healing devotion where visitors leave pieces of cloth tied to the fence as personal requests. This practice reflects how deeply rooted the site is in the everyday spiritual life of the community.
The chapel is located in West Flanders and can be accessed easily on foot, with the fence serving as the focal point for visitor participation. No special arrangements are needed to spend time here or leave personal cloth offerings.
The marble plate inside carries the inscription 'ONZE LIEVE VROUW VAN ALTIJDDURENDE BIJSTAND BID VOOR ONS', invoking Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This specific dedication reveals the particular spiritual focus that has shaped the chapel's purpose.
