Jesuit Pharmacy in Grodno

The Jesuit Pharmacy is a two-story Baroque building housing a collection of pharmacy equipment, medical instruments, and traditional healing herbs. Inside, visitors find a restored drugstore area, exhibition halls with historical items, and a shop offering dried medicinal plants.

Built between 1700 and 1709, this pharmacy operated as part of the Jesuit Monastery complex alongside the region's first Medical Academy. The institution played a central role in advancing medical education and pharmaceutical practice in the area.

The displays show original writings by Eliza Orzeszkowa and historical knowledge about healing plants rooted in Jesuit teaching. Visitors encounter both the scholarly work and the practical plant knowledge that shaped medical thinking for generations.

The museum spans three sections arranged across both floors and can be explored at a comfortable pace as exhibits are logically organized. The location sits centrally in the old town among other historical buildings, making it easy to combine with nearby sights.

French botanist Jean-Emmanuel Gilibert conducted research within these walls and helped shape pharmaceutical science in Eastern Europe. His work with local plants and remedies bridged European scholarship with regional herbal traditions.
