Slutsk-Kletsk Yeshiva, Jewish educational center in Kletsk, Belarus
The Slutsk-Kletsk Yeshiva is an educational institution in the town center designed in Art Nouveau style, with its main building featuring the decorative elements characteristic of that era. The building contained classrooms, dormitories, and prayer halls that supported both intensive study and daily spiritual practice.
Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer founded the institution in Slutsk before moving it to Kletsk, where it grew into a major center of learning. The new building was constructed in 1927 and expanded to serve hundreds of students until Soviet restrictions forced its closure in 1939.
The yeshiva served as a center for advanced Torah study, where students engaged in daily prayer and collaborative interpretation of sacred texts. This tradition reflected the deep commitment to Jewish learning that defined community life in the town.
The building is located in the town center and can be easily identified by its distinctive architectural style. The site is accessible on foot, allowing visitors to explore the structure and learn about the region's Jewish heritage.
During the 1927 construction of the building, local residents contributed materials and labor to support the project, reflecting strong ties between the Jewish community and their neighbors. This community support made completion possible and left a lasting mark of cooperation.
