Regional Reception Centre, building in Quebec, Canada
The Regional Reception Centre is a federal prison facility in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Quebec, operating since 1973. It serves primarily as an intake centre where new male inmates stay between three to six months for assessment before transfer to other institutions.
The facility opened in 1973 and has played a key role in Canada's prison system for processing new inmates ever since. The Special Handling Unit, operational since 1984, was added later to house inmates requiring heightened security measures.
The centre is located about 30 kilometres northwest of Laval and is easily reached by road. Visitors must submit an application form and schedule visits at least one day in advance, with visiting hours from 9:30 to 11:30 and 1:30 to 3:30 daily.
The site lies on traditional territory of the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka, Omàmìwininìwag, and Anishinabewaki nations, whose presence is recognized with respect. It shares the grounds with the Archambault Institution and Regional Mental Health Centre, enabling integrated coordination of services.
