Kingston General Hospital

Kingston General Hospital is a teaching hospital in Kingston, Ontario, serving patients across southeastern Ontario. The facility works with Queen's University's Faculty of Medicine to train healthcare professionals.

The hospital was founded in 1832 and served as the first seat of Parliament for the Province of Canada from 1841 to 1844. After this period, it evolved into a major medical facility for the region.

The burial ground on the hospital's grounds holds the remains of Irish immigrants who perished during a typhus outbreak in the 1840s while fleeing famine. These graves represent a chapter of hardship that shaped the community.

During the Great Depression, hospital staff voluntarily donated five percent of their wages to ensure patients could afford reduced-rate treatment. This action revealed the staff's commitment to serving the community during hardship.
