Nuttby Mountain

Nuttby Mountain is a 360-meter summit in the Cobequid Mountains, located roughly 20 kilometers north of Truro in Colchester County. The peak is accessed via a gated road from Route 311 and features telecommunication infrastructure and wind turbines at the top.

A fire lookout tower operated at the summit from 1937 until 2013, serving as a key observation point for detecting wildfires across the region. This structure was an essential part of Nova Scotia's fire prevention network during its decades of service.

The community of Nuttby grew around the surrounding land, and the mountain's name reflects how Nova Scotia's early settlements adopted local geographical features. Today, the peak remains tied to the local identity through its visibility from the nearby village.

Access is via a gated road from Route 311, with parking provided before a short walk to the summit. The terrain is open and exposed, so weather conditions can change quickly and proper clothing is recommended.

Since 2010, the mountain has hosted a wind farm with 22 turbines spread across 400 acres, generating roughly 50.6 megawatts of power for the province. This installation makes the summit a place where renewable energy production and the natural landscape coexist.
