Place de Ville, Commercial skyscraper complex in Downtown Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Place de Ville is a downtown office complex made up of four interconnected buildings in central Ottawa, featuring an underground shopping area. The development provides 974 parking spaces in its underground garage and connects directly to Lyon Station on the Confederation Line transit system.
Construction began in 1965 on a former streetcar garage site purchased by developer Robert Campeau, with the project completed in 1972. The development emerged during a period when Ottawa was modernizing its urban infrastructure and reshaping itself as the national capital.
This complex represents a shift in how Ottawa views downtown development, breaking away from earlier rules that kept buildings lower to preserve views of Parliament. The structures now define the skyline and show how the city has grown beyond its original restrictions.
The complex is easy to reach on foot and well-connected by public transit, making it straightforward to navigate between the buildings. Direct access to the subway station means you can easily reach other parts of the city from here.
One of the four towers houses two major hotels, the Delta Ottawa City Centre and the Ottawa Marriott, making it a mixed-use destination. This blend of offices and hospitality in a single building is an unusual arrangement for this type of urban development.
