The cathedral, constructed between 1946 and 1948, became the episcopal seat of the Diocese of Rouyn-Noranda in 2003.

The cathedral serves as the sole place of worship for the Holy Trinity Parish, following the consolidation of six parishes in 2005.
The cathedral's tenor bell, weighing 2000 kilograms, underwent restoration in Strasbourg, France, after remaining silent for over 50 years.
