Cathedral of St Teresa of Avila

The Cathedral of St Teresa of Avila stands on the highest hill of Amos, featuring a circular floor plan and a concrete dome rising ten stories high.

Construction of the cathedral began in 1922 under architect Aristide Beaugrand-Champagne, with local workers receiving 10 cents per hour for evening construction assistance.

The interior contains French stained glass windows on three sides and Italian ceramic mosaics depicting religious scenes, including the baptism of Jesus and Annunciation.

Located at 11 Boulevard Monseigneur-Dudemaine, the cathedral accommodates 1,200 worshippers and houses a Casavant organ installed in 1954.

The cathedral utilizes reinforced concrete construction, an unusual choice for 1920s religious buildings, selected to protect against frequent forest fires in the region.
