Semione, Mountain village in Blenio district, Switzerland
Semione is a mountain village in the Blenio Valley of Ticino canton, situated at roughly 390 meters (1,280 feet) elevation. The settlement consists of scattered houses with steep terrain and forests surrounding the area on all sides.
The settlement has roots reaching back several centuries as a valley community. In 2012 it merged with neighboring villages to form a larger administrative unit.
The Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta reflects the religious traditions that shaped daily life in this valley. The building serves as the spiritual center where residents have gathered for generations.
Access is via a winding mountain road with limited facilities in the village itself. Visitors will find no commercial services or accommodations directly in the settlement, making nearby valley towns better options for amenities.
The ruins of Serravalle Castle perch on a hill overlooking the village and remain visible from many points below. The medieval fortress hints that this location once controlled important passage through the mountains.
