Ludiano, Alpine village in Blenio district, Switzerland
Ludiano is a mountain village in the canton of Ticino, situated at 477 meters elevation and surrounded by forested slopes and Alpine peaks. The settlement spreads across the terrain with traditional stone buildings arranged throughout the landscape in a pattern typical of such communities.
The settlement was first recorded in 1211 under the name Luguilano and gradually became a center for the surrounding farms by the mid-14th century. The Church of San Secondo, built around the same era, anchored the development of this Alpine community.
The Church of San Secondo stands at the heart of village life with its Romanesque features and bell tower. It reflects the long spiritual tradition that has defined this mountain community for generations.
The village is best reached via local paths from the Blenio Valley, with several hiking trails connecting it to the surrounding landscape. The terrain is walkable year-round, though mountain conditions in winter require appropriate preparation.
The village sits within a heavily forested area where more than three-quarters of the land is covered by trees. This dense woodland creates a setting where human presence remains deeply interwoven with the natural environment.
