Saleina Glacier

The Saleina Glacier extends 6.45 kilometers in length with an average width of 1 kilometer, covering 8.57 square kilometers of Alpine terrain.

The glacier's formation originates from the eastern slopes of Aiguille d'Argentière and Aiguille du Chardonnet, reaching elevations of 3,400 meters at the French-Swiss border.

The glacier resides in the Valais canton, where local Alpine communities maintain strong connections to mountaineering traditions and environmental preservation efforts.

Visitors can access the glacier area through multiple hiking routes, with the Cabane Saleinaz offering 48 sleeping places across four dormitories from June to September.

The narrow glacial tongue creates the source of Reuse de Saleina river, which flows into the Dranse de Ferret through steep terrain above 1,700 meters.
