Grand Muveran, Alpine summit in Bex, Switzerland
Grand Muveran is a mountain summit in the Bernese Alps reaching 3,051 meters, positioned between the Rhone valley and the Pas de Cheville pass. Several glaciers cover parts of the peak, creating distinctive white slopes that contrast with darker rock faces throughout the year.
Mountaineers have used this peak since the 19th century as a training ground for alpine climbing development in Switzerland. Various climbing routes have been established and refined over generations of ascents.
The mountain area preserves traditional Swiss alpine practices, with local shepherds maintaining seasonal grazing patterns in the surrounding meadows during summer months.
The Rambert Hut at 2,582 meters offers overnight stays and serves as a base for climbing to the summit. Routes vary in difficulty depending on the season and require previous mountain climbing experience.
The peak has a prominence of more than 1,000 meters and is shaped by several distinct glacier systems. This glacial variety makes it a special subject for study by scientists and nature enthusiasts.
