Dents de Morcles, Mountain summit in Valais, Switzerland
Dents de Morcles is a peak formation with two summits reaching about 2,969 meters, located on the border between Valais and Vaud. The mountain sits at the western edge of the Bernese Alps with distinctive rocky ridges.
The first recorded ascent occurred in the early 1800s, marking the start of mountaineering in this Alpine section. Since then, the climbing routes became established pathways connecting the two valleys below.
The peaks mark a border between two cantons and serve as a regular destination for hikers from both nearby communities. Local visitors use the trails as a familiar part of their summer routines.
The main access point is from Ovronnaz, reachable by public transport from Martigny through Leytron. Summer months offer the best hiking conditions, though hikers should prepare for sudden weather changes common at this elevation.
The northern slopes hold the Glacier des Martinets while the southern side features Lac de Fully, creating a striking contrast. This geographic variety makes the area a rare blend of glacial terrain and lake landscape in one compact zone.
