Krönten, Mountain summit in Uri, Switzerland
Krönten is a mountain summit in the Urner Alps that reaches 3,108 meters and is characterized by two distinct summit towers. These towers are separated by a deep ravine that opens between the Erstfeld and Gorneren valleys.
Krönten was first climbed in 1868 when mountaineers reached the summit through challenging conditions. This first successful ascent marked the beginning of the mountain's climbing history.
The mountain stands as a testament to Swiss alpinism, attracting climbers who follow traditional routes while respecting local mountaineering practices and safety protocols.
The climb begins at Krönten hut at 1,903 meters elevation with a marked trail through the Obersee basin. From there the route continues over rocky sections and glacier areas toward the summit.
Between the two summit towers lies a notorious section where experienced climbers must attempt a leap across a roughly 10-meter (33 feet) gap. This daring move is an iconic part of the ascent.
