Cobra, Steel roller coaster in Wäldi, Switzerland
Cobra is a steel roller coaster at Connyland amusement park that takes riders through loops in both forward and backward directions, reaching a top speed of about 75 kilometers per hour. The ride consists of seven cars with two rows each and climbs backward up the lift before rotating through inversions in alternating forward and backward motions.
Cobra was added to Connyland in 1989 as an expansion of the park and was among the first shuttle coasters of this type in the region. It marked a turning point in modern entertainment offerings across Switzerland and demonstrated advances in ride technology.
The name comes from the rapid directional movements that resemble a snake's striking motions. Riders experience this characteristic dynamic directly as the train shifts its direction repeatedly.
Riders must be at least 130 centimeters tall to experience this roller coaster, with each train accommodating up to 28 passengers. Visiting the park early in the day helps avoid long queues, particularly on weekends or during holiday periods.
The ride reverses its direction and travels the entire track backward again, allowing riders to experience the loops from two completely different perspectives. This dual experience in a single journey is rarely seen and makes each cycle genuinely distinctive.
