Kornhaus, Historical granary in Yellow Quarter, Bern, Switzerland
The Kornhaus, constructed from Bernese sandstone, features twelve pillars supporting high vaults decorated with folkloric paintings of women in traditional Bernese costumes.
Built between 1711 and 1718, this granary stored grain supplies for Bern residents during winter months before transforming into a social venue in the 1800s.
The building now contains the Kornhaus Library, City Theater, and Kornhauskeller restaurant, making it a center for literature, performing arts, and gastronomy.
The Kornhauskeller restaurant opens for lunch from 11:45 AM to 2:30 PM and dinner from 6:00 PM to 12:30 AM, with access via trams 6, 7, 8, or 9.
The Granary Gallery Bar maintains a collection of 80 different single malt whiskeys while the medieval-style cellar serves Mediterranean and traditional Bernese dishes.
