The Kornhausforum occupies the upper floors of Bern's Kornhaus, the former grain warehouse on Kornhausplatz, built in 1711 to 1718 by city architect Niklaus Schiltknecht. Beneath the broad hipped roof, the converted granary halls now hold changing exhibitions on architecture, design, photography and urban questions, with tall windows looking over the old town.

The building on Kornhausplatz was erected in 1711-1718 as Bern's municipal granary (Kornhaus), designed by city architect Hans Jakob Dünz; the baroque facade with its broad hipped roof still defines the square. Grain storage ended in the 19th century, and the city later converted the halls to other uses. Since 1997 the Kornhausforum has occupied the upper floors as an exhibition and discussion venue for architecture, design and photography.

The institution promotes dialogue between artists, scientists, and the public through co-creation formats and international partnerships, emphasizing collaborative approaches to address complex societal issues through artistic expression.

The museum operates Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00, with most exhibitions offering free admission and regular special events including vernissages, lectures, and guided tours throughout the year.

The forum specializes in participatory workshops where visitors actively contribute to the creation of art projects, fostering direct public engagement in cultural discussions and artistic processes.
