Hotel Paxmontana, Art Nouveau hotel in Flüeli-Ranft, Switzerland
Hotel Paxmontana is an Art Nouveau hotel in Flüeli-Ranft with 83 rooms spread across four stories. It sits on a hilltop with views over Lake Sarnen and the mountains of Obwalden.
Franz Hess-Michel built the property as a spa house called Kurhaus Nünalphorn in 1896. Architects Heinrich Walter Schumacher and Otto Schnyder expanded it between 1905 and 1906.
The hotel keeps four rooms with original furnishings that show how Swiss hotel design looked in the late 1800s. Visitors can see how guests lived back then and what materials and styles were preferred.
The hotel houses a restaurant with a wide veranda and conference rooms that can hold up to 400 people. Visitors with electric cars can find charging stations near the main building.
Between 2009 and 2011, the building underwent major restoration work on its terrazzo floors, stucco ceilings, and original ceiling paintings. This careful reconstruction required skilled craftsmanship to bring back the historical details.
