Bec du Corbeau, Mountain summit in Collombey-Muraz, Switzerland
Bec du Corbeau is a mountain summit in the Chablais Alps at 1,992 meters (6,535 feet) between the valleys of Dranse d'Abondance and Illiez. The peak offers views across both sides of the mountain ridge and is accessible via several established hiking trails.
The mountain formed as part of Alpine uplift millions of years ago and was shaped by glaciers during ice ages. Since then it has served as a reference point for the border between the two countries.
The summit sits on the border between Switzerland and France, marking a natural passage between two countries that hikers notice as they climb higher. The route connects traditional Alpine paths used by local communities for many generations.
The route to the summit requires sturdy hiking boots because many sections can be muddy and slippery, especially in wet weather. Start early to finish before dark and bring water and sun protection.
A narrow path runs along the cliff edge bordered by boxwood hedges, creating a technical descent route for experienced mountain bikers. This unusual mix of natural landscape and shaped trail makes the downhill section memorable.
