Sperrstelle Unterägeri

Sperrstelle Unterägeri, Military fortress in Unterägeri, Switzerland.

Sperrstelle Unterägeri is a fortified site with multiple infantry bunkers, anti-tank barriers, and permanent weapon positions built along a strategic defensive line. The Artillery Position Bucklen in the lower Hürital valley displays concrete platforms for field guns and underground shelters that remain visible today.

The fortification was built starting in 1940 as part of Switzerland's national defense strategy and formed a section of the Réduit defense line extending over Lake Zug and the Zugerberg massif. In the 1980s, the Sigristboden barrier was integrated to strengthen defensive capabilities across the region.

The Military Historical Foundation of Canton Zug maintains these World War II structures to preserve Switzerland's defensive heritage for research and education.

The site is spread across rolling terrain and requires sturdy footwear to access the bunkers and positions connected by hiking paths. Plan time to walk between different structures and bring a map or guide to navigate the various points of interest across the landscape.

The Sigristboden barrier was added later as an extension to address changing strategic threats, showing how Switzerland adapted its defensive line over time. This addition reflects the ongoing adjustments made to counter emerging military developments during the Cold War era.
